I am a Machine Learning Research Engineer currently working on different research projects related to deep learning applied to astronomy and forestry. The last semester I was co-teacher of two Machine Learning courses for the Industrial Engineering Department of University of Concepción (UdeC).
In my penultimate year of Engineering, I won a fully-funded scholarship to hold my MSc. in Computer Science at UdeC. Pursuing this program, I was advised by Guillermo Cabrera-Vives and co-advised by Pavlos Protopapas. With their support, I was able to do my undergraduate honor research thesis (currently published at PASP), and my master thesis (honored with the Best Student Paper Award at Astroinformatics2019 conference).
For me, working is how we pay people back, what they do for us. Therefore, the more we do what we love, the more we give love back to the world and to the people who live in it.
One day, trying to find the best way for me to give back to the world, I concluded what can be summarized in three words: apply, generate and spread.
Applying is, in my opinion, the best way to learn. When some knowledge is acquired, it opens up the possibility to materialize new ideas, thereby generating new knowledge. However, none of these words have any sense if I am not capable of spreading what I have learned and making it available to other people.
Since I reached this conclusion, every project I've done, every class I've taught, and every challenge I've accepted, has been using those three words as my motto.
My family is by far the most important people in my life. And, as some people say, "friends are the family we choose", so I have always treated my friends as part of my family. I am the kind of person that gets energized when surrounded by other people, either hearing them and sharing problems, ideas, or just having casual conversations. I think this has allowed me to gladly and confidently work with people from different areas and with diverse perspectives. In my spare time, I enjoy different hobbies and passions such as dancing, surfing, cycling, and playing drums <3.
